Welcome to Albuquerque Hotels
Along the verdant Rio Grande
valley with crystal blue skies and crisp mountain air,
Albuquerque was named for the Duke of Albuquerque in
Spain by Spanish Governor Cuervo y Valdés when
settled in 1706. One of the oldest cities in the Western
United States, Albuquerque’s settlers chose the
location for the Rio Grande to irrigate their crops,
a plentiful wood supply, and trade with the Native Americans
in the area. Albuquerque began to grow in earnest around
1821, when Mexico gained its independence from Spain.
Settlers came along the Santa Fe Trail, and which linked
to the Camino Real though Albuquerque to Mexico City.
With the Santa Fe Railway America gradually came to
the Southwest – and alongside Fred Harvey hotels,
Albuquerque grew. Route 66 brought visitors directly
through Albuquerque, and those seeking a warmer climate
for health reasons settled here. Since 1950, Albuquerque
has grown steadily. Albuquerque Hotels is proud to call
Northern New Mexico home.
Albuquerque’s elevation is about
5500 feet above sea level. East of Albuquerque are the
majestic Sandia Mountains, which rise sharply an additional
mile above the city elevation and dramatically contrast
the surrounding high desert. “The Albuquerque
area” is comprised of the cities of Bernalillo,
Rio Rancho, Cedar Crest, Los Lunas, Tijeras, Belen,
and Corrales. The oldest capitol city in the United
States, Santa Fe, is fifty miles north. Northeast of
Albuquerque is Sandia Pueblo; south is Isleta Pueblo,
and to the west of Albuquerque lies Zuni Pueblo. Albuquerque’s
weather is one of its greatest assets. Summer temperatures
in Albuquerque range from daytime low 90s to the 60s
at night, with low humidity. Albuquerque winter temperatures
range from daytime 40s-50s to the 20s at night. Please

The Albuquerque area is home to the

Corporation, Sandia National Laboratories, Eclipse Aviation,
and other large corporations. Albuquerque’s economic
base varies immensely, ranging from farming and ranching,
to higher education, to the highest of the high-tech,
to military and government service, manufacturing, excellent
hotels, casinos and entertainment, medical research,
and, importantly, art and music. Wilderness sports such
as climbing, biking, hiking and skiing are quite popular,
and of course Albuquerque is the world center for hot
air and gas ballooning. Multi-cultural events and fiestas,
the State Fair, the Albuquerque International Balloon
Fiesta®, the Natural History and Science Museums,
the Albuquerque Zoo, the Albuquerque Aquarium, the Albuquerque
Botanical Gardens, the New Mexico Symphony Orchestra,
the Opera in Santa Fe, and many art galleries and local
musicians are all popular attractions.
